Inspiration

One of the great things I love about Google reader is the ability to share links with people on your friend’s list. They even integrated Google notes allowing you to make a comment about the entry as well, great for those sarcastic remarks or witty dialogue.
That being said, the only friend I have who uses Google reader is Joe, so finding and sharing that really awesome site through reader means most of my friends never get the message. Most of the time that is perfectly fine, but every once in a while you find that page that you want to spread around as much as possible. This site is one of those.
Nikon Miami is purely a photo blog of pictures of Miami, taken with, one would assume, Nikons. Beyond that almost every picture is truly remarkable in some way. I have this on my blogroll and checking for the 2 or 3 pictures that come in daily really keeps the artistic side of me alive. That part of me that wants to just run away with my camera for a few days to see what kind of shots I can come up with.
When the drudgery of day to day life gets me down, this site helps keep me going sometimes.
Commenting
by Jaime on Jan.16, 2009, under General
Apparently when I upgraded my version of WordPress, the plugin that I have to prevent spam comments started acting up, preventing anyone from commenting at all. I have disabled it for now, At some point I hope to get it working again, but till then I will have to get used to the comment requests that are actually Viagra adverts cleverly disguised.

Back in order

I was actually getting tired of the old layou anyways, this actually came at a good time. I had some spare time today, so I did some searching, and I finally found a new theme that I like, even if it it a bit dark.
It took some configuring to get it setup the way I wanted, but I found a whole bunch of new configuration options with the newer version of wordpress that I was not aware of previously.
Now I have the itch to go digging through the lists of plugins and widgets to see what else I can find to play around with…
Update to site
by Jaime on Jan.09, 2009, under Life
Yes my site looks bad, yes I’ll fix it… at some point.
Edit: Ok, now things don’t make your eyes bleed. I guess my previous theme was not compatible with the new version of WordPress I’ll go searching for something new I like soon.
Contact
by Jaime on Jan.05, 2009, under Life
A year ago I made a post about a shipment I had received in the mail which had been damaged in shipment, and as a consolation prize I received someone else’s shipment of personal photographs. At the time, I had done some research, trying to find contact information about the owner, and while I was able to find mention of some of her art pieces on exhibit in Florida, I was unable to find a a way to contact her directly.
For over a year, the box sat in my closet, the constant reminder that I need to go looking for the owner again. Finally, when packing for my holiday trip, the box completely disintegrated, spilling the contents all over my closet. This ultimate reminder finally goaded me into doing another quick net search this weekend, and sure enough, this time, I was able to find a facebook profile matching her name.
I quickly sent her a message, trying to sound as non-stalker like as possible, and today I received a message confirming that she was the owner of the lost package. As stalkerish as it felt trying to track her down, it was nice to find out that she was relieved to find out about her lost family mementos. Address in hand, I will finally be able to send her pictures to her, and get them out of my closet. A win for everyone.
Getting Organized
by Jaime on Jan.04, 2009, under General
I am finally getting all of my pictures organized. I am using my new MacBook as my photo storage and editing device, and now that I have everything moved over and Lightroom installed, I have spent the last few weeks getting all 26g of my photos dated and sorted.
I always hated taking pictures, but now, going back and looking through some of the pictures I have taken in the last decade, it makes me wish I had started sooner. Sure I am currently entertaining fantasies of being an amateur photographer, but beyond that, just having a record of some of the parties and fencing tournaments I have gone to over the years is priceless. I have enjoyed going through and finding hidden pictures tucked away into various subfolders labeled “New Folder” that I had totally forgotten about. It has been like finding hidden treasure.
I feel like the biggest part of the job is now over, though I do want to import them all into Lightroom and get some basic tagging put in, so that I can do some searching to quickly find photos if I want. That might be a pipe dream, but that is where I want to go next.
